Wild Blue Cats
What problem does Wild Blue Cats solve?
Thousands of cats and kittens in El Paso County face abandonment, abuse, and overcrowded shelters where euthanasia is common. Wild Blue Cats steps in as a safe haven, taking in felines that other facilities might turn away — including seniors, special needs animals, and feral cats with nowhere else to go. Their approach combines direct rescue with proactive population control through trap-neuter-release efforts across the region.
Who benefits from their work?
Cats and kittens facing homelessness, neglect, or surrender in the Colorado Springs metro area. Families and individuals looking to adopt a carefully vetted, healthy companion animal. Rural property owners seeking barn or working cats for rodent control. Community members dealing with feral cat colonies who need humane TNR assistance.
What makes their approach unique?
Operating from a wooded sanctuary in Black Forest, Wild Blue Cats offers something rare — a true lifetime commitment. Cats live in communal indoor spaces with access to protected outdoor catios, and feral residents enjoy Maya's Friends Wildheart Village, a massive netted outdoor habitat. With over 13,000 cats rescued since 2010, an extensive foster network for kittens and nursing mothers, a dedicated barn cat rehoming program, and an on-site surgery center, they combine scale with genuine compassion. They hold Candid's Gold Seal of Transparency and partner with Best Friends Animal Society as part of the national no-kill movement.
What does a donation accomplish?
$25 covers vaccinations and microchipping for one rescue cat | $50 provides a month of food and medical care for a sanctuary resident | $100 funds a spay/neuter surgery through the TNR program | $250 supports a foster family caring for a litter of orphaned kittens
Where do they serve?
Colorado Springs, Black Forest, El Paso County, and surrounding communities. TNR services extend throughout the broader Pikes Peak region.
Our sanctuary is nestled in the Black Forest area of northeast Colorado Springs, surrounded by woods where our cats enjoy a beautiful, peaceful habitat. Our main building provides communal housing where cats can socialize while waiting for their forever homes, with access to outdoor "catios" that keep them safe from the elements and predators. We consider every cat adoptable and work hard to find them the perfect match.
We run an extensive foster family network that primarily cares for kittens, pregnant mama cats, and nursing mothers. Our fosters are the backbone of our rescue — they provide the round-the-clock care that tiny, vulnerable lives need to thrive. Maya's Friends Wildheart Village is our 100-by-200-foot outdoor, netted enclosure with a heated shed, specially designed for shy and feral cats who can't safely be released back into the wild.
In 2025, we opened our CCU and surgery center, and we launched Meera's M*A*S*H — a mobile spay/neuter vehicle that takes our services directly into the community. Our Working Cats program finds placements for barn, shop, and garage kitties, and our TNR efforts have addressed over 600 cats in a single year.
100% of the cats in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and — when not feral — microchipped. We are committed to preventing and eliminating euthanasia of treatable and savable animals. Come visit us at our Open House every Saturday from 12 to 4, or reach out to start your adoption journey.
