Keeping Families Connected, Inc.
What problem does Keeping Families Connected, Inc. solve?
When a parent goes to prison, the family does time too. Children lose contact with their mom or dad — not because they don't want to visit, but because they can't afford the trip or the facility is too far away. Distance and money are the two biggest barriers to maintaining family bonds during incarceration. Without consistent contact, family relationships deteriorate, children struggle emotionally and academically, and the path to successful reentry after release becomes much harder for everyone involved.
Who benefits from their work?
Children and families of incarcerated individuals in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex who lack the financial means or transportation to visit correctional facilities. Youth and young adults from broken homes who need mentoring, counseling, and life skills development to overcome the challenges of having an incarcerated parent.
What makes their approach unique?
Founded by Letitia Scott from personal experience, Keeping Families Connected operates on a simple but powerful belief: the bars don't have to become barriers. They provide completely free transportation to and from correctional facilities — week after week, month after month — so families never lose touch. Beyond visitation, they invest in the next generation through youth events, educational resources, mentoring, and counseling services that address the unique trauma children of incarcerated parents face. The organization runs on donations and volunteer staff, keeping overhead low and impact high.
What does a donation accomplish?
$25 covers gas for a family visitation trip | $50 sponsors a youth mentoring session | $100 funds a month of counseling for a child of an incarcerated parent | $250 provides transportation for an entire family for a full year of visits
Where do they serve?
Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, including Dallas, Frisco, and surrounding North Texas communities. Transportation services reach correctional facilities throughout the DFW region and beyond.
We provide free transportation to help families visit their incarcerated loved ones at prisons across Texas. For many of the families we serve, the cost of gas, the difficulty of navigating rural prison locations, and the logistics of traveling with children make regular visits nearly impossible. We bridge that gap so that families can maintain the relationships that are critical to successful reentry and to the emotional well-being of children with incarcerated parents.
Our work is rooted in the belief that maintaining family bonds during incarceration reduces recidivism, supports children's development, and strengthens communities. Every trip we facilitate is an investment in a family's future.
